SKV is proud to announce the addition of two partners, Sydney Scott, and Alex Wolf, effective January 1, 2021. These two new partners represent the firm’s practice areas: commercial litigation, energy transactions, and white-collar criminal defense.
“The partnership is thrilled to name Sydney and Alex as partners”, said SKV Partner and Founder, Larry Veselka. “They have proven themselves time and time again through their dedication to SKV’s clients, their interests, and solving their problems. That attention to our clients’ interests is the hallmark of an SKV partner.”
Sydney Scott represents plaintiffs and defendants in a wide array of complex commercial litigation matters. Ms. Scott also has experience representing individuals and corporate clients in white-collar criminal defense matters. Sydney focuses on developing pragmatic, efficient, and cost-effective strategies to resolve even the most complex disputes.
Sydney received her B.A. in English from Dartmouth College, and her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she served as an Articles Editor on the University of Pennsylvania Journal of Constitutional Law, the Vice President of the Black Law Students Association, and a research assistant for Professor Tobias Barrington Wolff.
After graduating from law school, Sydney clerked for the Honorable James J. Brady on the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana, and the Honorable Carl E. Stewart on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, during his tenure as Chief Judge.
Alex Wolf represents clients in high stakes criminal and civil matters. He has represented clients in investigations and prosecutions by the Department of Justice (DOJ), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Commodities Future Trading Commission (CFTC), and Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC). His matters have involved bribery, money laundering, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), insider trading, fraud, and other financial crimes; environmental crimes and industrial catastrophes; and public corruption. He was part of the SKV trial teams that secured jury acquittals in federal court for the BP wellsite leader wrongfully blamed for the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and a dentist charged with insider trading.
In his civil practice, Alex represents plaintiffs and defendants in complex disputes, whether in federal courts, state courts, or arbitrations. His industry experience encompasses railroads, higher education, healthcare, oil and gas, and financial services, among others. Recent victories include a summary judgment ruling for a surgery center against its contractual counterparty in a dispute concerning the parties’ rights to pursue unpaid claims against a health insurance company, and favorable settlements in unrelated breach of contract cases against contractors who performed deficient repair work on a client’s storage tanks.
Alex received his B.A. from Cornell University, magna cum laude, in 2006 and his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 2012, where he was an executive articles editor of the Harvard Journal on Legislation. After law school, he practiced in the Boston office of McDermott Will & Emery and clerked for the Honorable Carolyn Dineen King on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He also holds a master’s degree in higher education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and worked in alumni affairs and development at Cornell University before attending law school.
