SKV Client’s Criminal Tax Fraud Investigation Closed with No Penalty Assessed or Charges Filed

This week, the IRS’s Criminal Investigation Division (“CID”) informed SKV’s client, a Houston small business owner, that CID has closed its criminal investigation into potential tax fraud without assessing any penalty or recommending any criminal charges.

Once CID is involved in an IRS investigation, it is difficult and relatively rare to achieve a non-criminal resolution.  Here, SKV worked over the course of months—including with a private investigator who specializes in tax-related matters—to compile evidence demonstrating that there was no tax liability, much less tax fraud.  SKV is pleased that IRS-CID has closed its investigation and that our client can now fully focus on business matters during this difficult economic time.
