Smyser Kaplan & Veselka (“SKV”) announced today that Sarah Cooper and Kelley Keller have joined the firm as Counsel.
Sarah Cooper has practiced at Baker Botts, Vinson & Elkins, and Cravath Swaine & Moore. Her practice has included a wide range of civil, corporate, and criminal or investigative matters. As a civil trial lawyer, she has worked on antitrust, securities fraud, defamation, privacy, and hostile takeover matters, as well as numerous internal investigations. These have included internal corporate and whistleblower investigations on behalf of independent and special committees of boards of directors, and representing corporate and individual clients in government investigations for securities fraud, price fixing, and public corruption. Cooper received her J.D. from Stanford Law School.
“This is the second time we tried to recruit Sarah,” said SKV founder and partner, Lee Kaplan. “We’re adding a stellar talent to our expanding team, and are thrilled to finally have her on board.”
Kelley Keller, a native Houstonian, has handled high-stakes litigation for 30 years. Keller has enjoyed a varied civil litigation practice, representing clients involved in matters ranging from products liability defense to commercial disputes to securities and intellectual property litigation. An experienced trial lawyer, she has tried cases to verdict in both state and federal courts. Before joining SKV, Ms. Keller practiced at Skadden Arps and Vinson & Elkins. Keller received her J.D. from The University of Houston Law Center.
“Kelley knows her way around a courtroom and has decades of experience in the kinds of complex cases that SKV regularly handles,” said SKV Partner Dane Ball. “She’s a perfect fit to help us handle a work load that continues to grow.”
SKV is thrilled to add two powerhouse and dynamic female attorneys to its growing litigation team. “Sometimes in life, you’re just lucky,” said SKV partner Ty Doyle. “You could spend years searching for lawyers with qualifications as strong as those of our two new colleagues, but as fate would have it, we were able to make two great additions in a matter of days. The SKV brand continues to grow, and we’re excited that so many talented people are seeking to join our team.”
SKV was recently named “Litigation Department of the Year” by Texas Lawyer and as a “Top 10 Litigation Boutique in the United States” for 2019 and a “Highly Recommended Litigation Firm” in Texas by Benchmark Litigation.
