SKV is proud to announce the addition of Rick Houghton to our growing team of litigators.
Rick Houghton represents clients in complex commercial litigation and white collar criminal defense and investigations. Before joining Smyser Kaplan & Veselka, Mr. Houghton clerked for the Honorable Gregg J. Costa, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and the Honorable Lee H. Rosenthal, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas.
Mr. Houghton received his J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School, where he earned the Joseph H. Beale Prize for excellence in Conflict of Laws and a Dean Scholar Prize for excellence in Property. He was also the Executive Submissions Editor of the Harvard Business Law Review and a board member of the Harvard Association of Law and Business.
Mr. Houghton is an honor graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. He was awarded a Rotary Scholarship to the University of Oxford, where he received a Master of Studies in History. Mr. Houghton served as a U.S. Army Officer for six years in a variety of domestic and overseas assignments, including as the commander of an Air Defense Artillery training battery at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
Mr. Houghton is an active member of the Houston Young Lawyers Association. He was selected for the organization’s Leadership Academy in 2018 and as a Houston Young Lawyers Foundation Fellow in 2020.
