Since its founding, SKV has been a part of some of Houston’s biggest securities-related actions.

Overview

Whether it’s a shareholder derivative suit, an SEC investigation, or a 10(b)(5) securities fraud class action, SKV is ready to handle your most challenging securities matters.

SKV has been involved in some of the most significant securities litigation in the past decade. On the civil side, defending against putative securities fraud class actions has always been one of the Firm’s specialties.

As one significant example, SKV represented the former Enron CFO in one of the nation’s largest class action security cases that generated hundreds of civil suits across the country. As another example, SKV won all 5 federal securities fraud class actions brought against a regional healthcare provider over a 5-year period, winning all of the cases at the trial court level and also successfully defending those judgments that were appealed.

On the white-collar front, SKV has successfully handled multiple SEC investigations and criminal matters involving securities laws. SKV lawyers have represented shareholders, executives, directors, business entities, and special committees in a variety of securities matters involving both state and federal securities laws. As just one example, SKV recently tried and obtained a favorable jury verdict on behalf of a close corporation in a case involving derivative claims under Texas securities laws.  And while we relish the opportunity to go to trial, our reputation as a tough courtroom opponent means that we are often able to negotiate favorable outcomes for our clients in the early stages of disputes/investigations.

SKV’s boutique size and entrepreneurial spirit give clients numerous advantages.  First, because we are a trial firm, nearly all of our team, from senior partners to paralegals and secretaries, has significant experience in trials and arbitrations.  Second, we staff matters leanly, which means that as a client, you will receive a dedicated and appropriately-sized team that learns your case thoroughly and is available to address your needs.  And finally, we have never been wedded to the billable hour and are always willing to discuss alternative fee arrangements with clients. At SKV, we use a straightforward approach to evaluating your case and your needs, making sure we never lose sight of your goals.
